Who’s Who in Forestry in Lesotho
Lesotho Council of NGO’s (LCN) want to find out about all forestry stakeholders in Lesotho. A new partnership project between the Ministry of Forestry and Land Reclamation, Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations and LCN has been initiated to collect baseline information on all Non-governmental Organizations, Community Based Organisations and the Private Sector, who have been involved in forestry activity and those who wish to be involved in the future.

The forestry information collected will enable all non-state actors in forestry to help inform the governments planned new ‘National Forestry Programme’, to be formulated this year. Organisations can get involved in the planning through filling out a questionnaire which will enable them to become listed on a on-line database that will be placed on LCN’s new website to be completed by December, 2005. The database will act as the Who’s Who in Forestry in Lesotho and will outline organisations past, current work and future aspirations towards forestry.

With the help of its member NGO’s, Rural Self-help Development Association and Boseele Association the researchers will cover all ten districts in Lesotho in pursuit of this information. They will be collecting information on all types of forestry activity, whether large or small, such as timber production, tree nurseries, agro-forestry, orcharding and fruit production and will also include community forestry activities such as woodlots and land reclamation by tree planting.

Tseliso Tsoeu from LCN said ‘ the project gives all stakeholders in forestry a chance to have their say. It also allows us at LCN to understand more about civil society aspirations in regards of forestry. With Lesotho’s topography, climate and economic situation, forestry in all its aspects has a great potential for livelihood recovery in Lesotho. It is important that all forestry stakeholders in Lesotho have their voices heard through this survey and other consultations that will be held in the future.’

You can complete the questionnaire opposite and return it to LCN by 31st October or;
