Training of Trainers Workshop
on Voters Education 15/12/06 |
Lesotho Council of NGOs (LCN)
through its Democracy and Human Rights Commission will conduct the
Training of Trainers workshop at Bethel in the Quthing Districts
from the 17th – 20th December, 2006.
The purpose of the workshop is to train the team of trainers that
will conduct voted education to the electorates in Lesotho towards
the 2007 General election.
About 50 representatives of the civil society will participate at
the training. The training will cover the following civic and voter
education areas:
• The constitutional background of Election and the role of
Elections in the Advancement of Democracy
• Independent Electoral Commission: Its powers, structure and tenure
of office
• Voting and voting procedures
• Electoral system: First Past the Post, Proportional Representation
and Mixed Member Proportional
• Political Parties: Registration of, PR Lists, Code of Conduct
• Safeguards for free and fair elections: standards, observers,
agents and the media
It is expected that at the end of the training, there shall be the
concrete and actionable plan by participants on the succeeding
stages. It is also expected that after the training, the team of
trainers will deliver the voters education to their respective
milieus.
Trainers at the training will be drawn from civil society and
Independent Electoral Commission.
This training of trainers is part of the larger programme of LCN on
the election towards 2007 election. The programme comprises
observation of registration, Voter education, review of electoral
material, and the observation of the process towards and during the
2007 general election.
