Press Release 23/04/07 |
Lesotho Council of NGOs
has organized a one day workshop on climate change to be held at the
Transformation Resource Centre (24/04/07) in Maseru.
The workshop is intended at sharing information on various aspects
of climate change e.g the science behind climate change,
vulnerability, impacts and adaptations to climate change.
The workshop is done to respond and achieve one of the priorities in
the Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resource Commission (AENRC)
action plan. It is also done in preparation for global environment
facility small grants programme in Lesotho. The project is expected
to take off sometime during the middle of the year.
Participation is drawn from Agriculture, Environment and Natural
Resources Commission members, Participatory Ecological Land Use
Management (PELUM) members, National University of Lesotho, Ministry
of Agriculture, Ministry of Forestry and Land Reclamation.
It is expected that the participants would communicate the
information to other members on the ground and they would be able to
develop projects and programmes that mitigate the negative impact of
climate change on the environment.
Meanwhile Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resource Commission (AENRC)
is a group of member NGOs committed to sustainable agriculture, food
security, sustainable livelihoods and conservation of the natural
environment in Lesotho. Some of the member organisations have a
specific remit of agriculture and natural resource management, but
the majority are NGOs that see the work of the commission as a way
of assisting their membership and clients out of poverty. |
