350 Observers would be
deployed all over the country to observe the General Elections

Lesotho Council of NGOs
would deploy about 350 observers to observe the forth coming
elections to take place on 17th February, 2006.
A one day Training of Trainers for observers was held at
Transformation Resource Centre (06/02/06) and starting Saturday
(10/02/06), the trainers in return would conduct trainings for the
rest of observers all over the country before the General Elections.
The training was designed to equip participants with training skills
and introduced the trainees to basic information on Elections
Observation as a concept and the voting itself and its counting.
Several electoral observation benchmarks to be used as an assessment
checklist tool in elections were discussed and the participants
understanding on their role during the elections was deepened.
The workshop was aimed at establishing a vibrant civil society team
to train the larger group of observers on Elections Observation in
order to increase their understanding, appreciation, support and
participation in the general elections.
LCN’s electoral observation would enable the council to assess
freeness and fairness of the elections.
