Financial
Management Programme |
The objective of the
financial management programme is to strengthen and improve member
NGOs capacity in financial management to secure accountability and
transparency.
Previously, Lesotho Council of NGOs, as an umbrella organisation,
was chosen by donors to support and capacitate member NGOs. Through
this process member NGOs had to report to LCN that acted as a
conduit of funds. Through this process it was realised that the
financial reporting was of poor quality. The main reason found was
that the NGO sector has a shortage of skilled personnel, largely
because of the brain drain to South Africa and the high turnover
rate in some NGOs.
LCN realised that this need should be attended to and approached MS
(A Danish Development Agency). The solution was to start a programme
of financial management with the accounts officer. Member NGOs are
now offered training and monitoring in Financial Management.
The training consists of:
- Preparation and
monitoring of budget
- Record keeping
- Internal financial
audit/updates
- Expense analysis
- Income analysis
- Financial statement
The trained members are
monitored after the finalisation of the training.
Intended impact /outcome of this programme:
- Member NGOs will be
accountable and transparent.
- Improved financial
reporting.
- It will be easier to
attract and retain donor support.
- Member NGOs should
be able to train themselves in the future under LCN guidance.
