Women and Children Commission
This Commission co-ordinates all activities of organisations dealing with women and children issues. It was formed at the time when gender issues and gender equality were on the agenda in the country and internationally. Its focus therefore, is to improve political participation of women and to ensure that their rights are not violated.
Women and Children Commission of the LCN is aimed at promoting women political participation as well as ensuring that women and children’s rights are not violated.

The Commission is at present engaged in a study dubbed “As You Sew” Ensuring Basotho Children Benefit from the Globalised Textile Industry in Lesotho. The objective is to assess how far the employment generating and poverty reducing effects of international trade, as exemplified by the newly created textile manufacturing industry in Lesotho actually benefit the children of those it employs To use this evidence in specialist campaigns and advocacy carried out by LCN members to force national, regional and international stakeholders in the growth of this industry to take into account the needs of the children affected and respond to them adequately.

The project is now in the final stages of report preparation to incorporate the comments from Lesotho Council of NGOs. The research work has been completed awaiting a strong analysis from the researcher.
On completion of the project, it is hoped that the findings would be utilised for advocacy purposes as well as information dissemination. Due to late arrival of the funds, the research kick started very late and it was impossible for the team to attend the G8 for advocacy, due to not enough data collected at the time. The project however was kept together and the field visits were done later on.

As you sew, is the first project that has attempted at ensuring Basotho children benefit from the global industry in Lesotho. The scope of this task was enormous, the time frame was very short, and the observed population numbers small due to time. The results are interesting.
