The purpose of the Democracy and Human Rights Programme of the
Lesotho Council of is to coordinate, network and build the capacity
of member NGOs in a view to consolidate democracy and promote human
rights. This is done to enhance and improve the effectiveness and
efficiency of the NGOs.
The main activity in capacity building is training of NGOs in
various areas of democracy and human rights. Along with this is the
holding of public forums, conference, seminars and workshops at
national level.
The coordination aspect of the programme is the holding of meetings
on monthly basis. The meetings are a platform of NGOs to share
information. Where necessary working committees are formed to deal
with those issues that the commission’s believe immediate attention.
The meetings are chaired by a commissioner, while the programmes
coordinators are secretaries to the commission.
The commissions programmes are split into two. Democratic Governance
and Elections Management Programme and Human Rights Monitoring
Programme. The following are the main activities of the two
programmes.

rights abuses in Lesotho
